Berlin school mentors

On 21st February the class 6a from Ludwig-Heck-elementary school in Berlin-Tempelhof had the chance to talk with profession-mentors in the so-called profession-hour. The initiative Berlin School Mentoris is organising those encounters with representatives of different professions for all Berlin elementary schools.  With meeting people that are an example of their profession the kids have a chance to discover new interests and find suggestions for future professions. This is a big motivation for their school education and helps to smooth the path to an educated choice of profession in later life.

The volunteer supporter Mrs. Hädrich is enthusiastically taking care of the project. Since the elementary school class 6a was interested in marketing and graphic design, Mrs. Vahldiek approached Malzfabrik. Three more school mentors arrived together with Anna Hoffmann and Marleen Venus.

After a short introduction round, the children, in groups of four, were able to switch from mentor to mentor in 15 minute intervals and ask all their questions in order to get an insight into the various tasks. Using merchandise and information material Anna and Marleen were able to explain the world of marketing and graphic design, which was unknown to most of them. The feedback round at the end showed that they discovered a lot for themselves and were inspired by their conversations.

The next profession-hours take place in 2019 and Malzfabrik definitely wants to participate again in order to show the diversity of professions to even more children.
